We need your help to be a buddy with the special athletes throughout the day. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make this day a rewarding experience for our special athletes. We ask that you to arrive no later than 8AM to check in at the volunteer registration area.  IMPORTANT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO COMMIT TO STAY UNTIL 2:00 PM.

School Volunteer Instructions:

  • No one finishes first or last at the Special Games. The Games provide athletes with the “thrill of participation,” much love and applause.
  • When you meet your athlete, introduce yourself to their teacher. Ask if there are any behavioral, medical or other needs of which you should be aware, as well as what events the athlete can participate in.
  • Be sure to make note of the school they are from should their name badge fall off during the day.
  • The tents will have a sign for each school, so should you need to go back to their school area.
  • Follow the teacher’s instructions. Do not go off alone with your athlete; always go to the restroom in pairs.
  • Your athlete might be leery, shy or overwhelmed. Smile, Laugh, and reassure them what fun they are going to have. Lead by example.
  • The more they trust you, the more enriching their experience will be.
  • During lunch make sure the Athlete eats first. Then the Volunteer.
  • At the close of the Games, make certain you bring your athlete to the correct team (school). Before you say goodbye to your athlete, let their teacher know they have returned.
  • If you need to contact athlete’s school, go to school sign & cell # of contact will be posted on it.
  • We ask that you commit to stay until 1 p.m. If you are unable to stay, be sure that your athlete is returned to their SCHOOL Supervisor under the tents to have another Volunteer partner assigned for the rest of the day. You must report back to your school for proper clearance to leave.
  • If you have any questions please ask a TEACHER, FIELD MARSHALL (Red Shirt) or one of the volunteer staff members.
  • VOLUNTEERS WILL BE AWARDED COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS.
